Why Hawaiian Retreats are Healing for the Mind, Body & Soul

Kauai, Hawaii Retreat 2014Everyday life can be hectic. Work, kids, family obligations, and the never ending challenge to disconnect from the tech world (yes, it’s okay to turn off your Facebook notifications on your phone from time to time!).

If you are feeling overwhelmed, a bit worn down, or just in need of a break from the daily grind, then I suggest you seriously consider a retreat. Retreats offer the ultimate in relaxation, helping you recharge and clear your mind. Best of all, you can plan a retreat almost anywhere in the world.

I recently had the opportunity to invest in some “me time” on a Hawaiian retreat. I went to Kauai, Hawaii, a stunningly beautiful island. The oldest of the main Hawaiian Islands, Kauai is known as the most feminine place on the earth.

I chose this destination because my business partner once lived there and wanted to host a retreat, so we teamed up and facilitated it together. Plus, who doesn’t want to go to Hawaii, right? And so we gathered a travel group of eight women and set out on the Ultimate Hawaiian Getaway, where we’d spend one full week.

Here are just some of the life-changing experiences we shared together…
Hawaiian beachWe climbed a 4500 ft. mountain! It was inspiring to watch fears and limiting beliefs melt away as we conquered the false power it held over us. Each and every one of us blasted through our inner fears and made it to the top.

We participated in a cacao ceremony, a beautiful goddess-like circle.

We did yoga and meditation every day as the sun came up. It was truly magical.

We did a local art walk in one of the communities and dined in local eateries.

We did fire dancing and learned how to hula—so much fun!

We experienced the birthing place the Dalai Lama proclaims is the entrance and exit portal for souls entering the island.

We also had the opportunity to get close to the Big Kahuna! There, we performed a ceremonial ritual of sage. We then hugged the tree of life, where we released things that weren’t serving their purpose, and set new intentions of what we wanted to call into our lives. It was a breathtaking experience.

This may sound funny, but have you ever watched Avatar? That’s what I felt like—a little blue guy in a big world of forest and trees. It was mystical!

Even though Hawaii is beautiful and I had the chance to experience so many amazing things, my favorite part was not the outer beautify of it all. The piece I hold closest to my heart is the connection with women as sisters—the sisterhood, the sharing—and the opportunity to disconnect with society and reconnect with myself.

Needless to say, I’ll be returning to Kauai for another retreat. If you’re interested in participating in this rejuvenating experience, call me!
